There are nine public kindergartens and fourteen private kindergartens in Rana municipality. Public kindergartens are owned and maintained by the municipality, and private kindergartens are owned and maintained by companies, commercial entreprises, or organizations. All kindergartens are required to follow the Framework Plan for kindergartens in terms of guidelines, and financial costs for children are the same regardless of private or public kindergartens, where kindergartens are located in different city areas in Rana municipality.

Admission 

The admission into Rana municipality's kindergartens are allocated through an online application process administrated by Rana municipality. The application deadline is 1 April every year with the start date 1 December this year, and with the requirement that the child is born before 1 December last year. You can apply for admission into kindergarten after application deadline April 1, although it is no guarantee that your child will receive a kindergarten place. Most likely your child will be placed on the waiting list or be taken into supplementary admission, which means that your child will receive a spot when spots become vacant throughout the year.

National Population Registry 

Keep in mind that the child must be registered in the National Population Registry which means to be registered living together with family in Norway in order to be able to apply for a kindergarten place in Rana municipality.

Applying for kindergarten place 

You apply for a kindergarten place as a parent or guardian on behalf of your child by using your Norwegian Identification Number and Electronic ID to get to your personal page, where you register your child online. Be aware of that you will need a Norwegian Identification Number and Electronic ID when applying for a kindergarten place.

Applying without Norwegian Identification Number and Electronic ID

For those who are in the process of acquiring themselves a Norwegian Identification Number and Electronic ID but still hasn't received it yet, can apply for a kindergarten place on behalf of their child without having a Norwegian Identification Number and Electronic ID. It is recommended to keep the application deadline 1 April every year.
